Day By Day
Detailed Itinerary
Every day is planned around the sightseeing, transfers and services mentioned in the provided Cambodia tour program.
Phnom Penh Arrival & City Tour
Fly into Phnom Penh, the city that retains its traditional Khmer and colonial charm. French villas along tree-lined boulevards remind visitors that the city was once considered the Pearl of Southeast Asia. Visit the Royal Palace compound built in 1866 by the predecessors of King Norodom. Near the Royal Palace is the Silver Pagoda, also known as the Emerald Buddha Temple, displaying Buddha statues decorated with diamond, emerald, gold and silver. Continue to the Independence Monument, constructed in 1954 after Cambodia regained independence from the French colony. Visit the National Museum, the distinctive red building with beautiful Khmer architecture, built in 1917 and containing more than 5,000 art objects made of sandstone, bronze, silver, copper, wood and other materials.
Phnom Penh – Old Capital Oudong Mountain
Pick up at 08:00 AM from the hotel lobby by local guide and driver and depart to visit Oudong, which was the royal residence and Cambodia's capital for more than 250 years. In 1866 King Norodom moved the capital to Phnom Penh. Explore the hills and visit the temples and stupas containing the remains of several Khmer kings such as King Monivong and King Ang Duong. The summit of the hills of Oudong offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. On the way back to Phnom Penh, visit the Silversmiths Village where craftsmen make beautiful Khmer-style silver crafts. In the afternoon, learn about Cambodia's more recent turbulent history with a visit to the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, also known as S21, a former school that became a Khmer Rouge prison and torture centre.
Phnom Penh – Siem Reap by Overland & Tonle Sap
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for Siem Reap from Phnom Penh. The distance is approximately 315 km and takes around 6 hours via National Road 6A. En route, stop twice to visit the large spider market at Skun before continuing to Siem Reap. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel. Then continue to visit Tonle Sap, driving down the eastern side of the lake to a remarkable village built entirely on stilts. Explore the various houses, school and shops before boarding your private boat. Cruise along a short tributary, passing fishermen and children playing in the shallow waters before arriving at a typical floating village where you may disembark or cruise amongst the waterways.
Angkor Thom & Angkor Wat
After breakfast at the hotel, visit the West Gate of Angkor Thom, an area undiscovered by mass tourists. Explore the ancient capital of Angkor Thom dating from the 12th century. See the South Gate and Bayon Temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara. Continue to Baphuon Temple, a pyramidal representation of mythical Mount Meru. Visit Phimeanakas Temple, part of the huge complex that was used by the kings in the past. Continue to the Elephant Terrace, where kings and officers viewed shows and gatherings, followed by Preah Palilay, an older temple deeply located in the forest. Visit Ta Prohm, famous from the movie Tomb Raider, where the temple has been abandoned to the elements and nature has taken over. Continue to the famous Angkor Wat, a World Heritage Site since 1992, famous for its beauty and splendour and featuring the longest continuous bas-relief in the world narrating stories from Hindu mythology.
Siem Reap – Phnom Kulen National Park
Embark on an amazing journey to the unexplored and beautiful lush mountain region of the north. Phnom Kulen is considered the holiest mountain in Cambodia and is a very active pilgrimage place and picnic destination for Khmer families. Drive through local villages, farmlands, rice fields and temples before reaching a trail through dense jungle leading to the top of the mountain. Visit Preah Ang Thom, a 16th-century Buddhist monastery notable for the giant reclining Buddha carved into the top of a 20m boulder. Continue downstream to the magnificent series of tiered waterfalls. The waters hold special religious significance for Hindus, thanks to the hundreds of phallic images carved into the sandstone floors along the shady brook area. Walk into the shallow river to photograph the sculptures and underwater carvings before continuing to the waterfalls and natural pools.
Siem Reap Departure
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Siem Reap Airport for departure to the next destination. It is time to say goodbye. We thank you for travelling with us and warmly welcome you to come again.
